Day 10 of the A-Z of Cornwall - K - Kennack Sands

Hi fellow Blippers, Jules ere. As Val has decided to have an afternoon nap, it has fallen to me to write today's blip, detailing our latest adventure.

Today after much deliberation and suggestions via Val's Facebook page, we decided to head to Kuggar, a small village close to Ruan Minor on the Lizard peninsula. The small pub (The Potters Bar) was to be our source of sustenance but upon our arrival, we discovered it to be closed. A bit annoying to say the least. Anyway, we decided to take a short drive down the road to Kennack Sands.

Kennack Sands is actually two beaches (East & West), divided in two by a grassy hill called Carn Kennack and a shore side rock feature called the Caerverracks. The easterly beach has been designated as a nature reserve and can be reached by taking thd footpath that runs behind the west beach and going up and over Carn Kennack. The beach is well known by the surfing community as the shallow angle of the beach and big tidal range can throw up surf of between 4 & 5 foot. As with many beaches along the coast of of Cornwall, this beach has it's own shipwreck story. In 1914, a French vessel, The Normand of Nantes ran aground here, the remains of which can still be seen at very low tide. (Apparently)

Special note for you dog lovers out there (and especially you MollieCollie) the main beach has restrictions between Easter and October, 7am-7pm. The east beach is however doggy friendly!

We had a wander along the beach and through the rock pools but due to the weather being rather grey and miserable, and the sand on the beach being equally grey, we decided not to stay long.

Before we left, we popped into the small cafe/diner/gift shop for a can of coke and some chips.

Think that K may have to be revisited at some stage, maybe Kynance Cove but that would have to be done on a day when the sun is shining, unlike today.

All in all, K was a bit of an epic fail, but we are looking forward to our next adventure (hopefully not another failure as I & K have been). As always, your ideas for L would be greatly appreciated.
