It's all starting to take off

Early morning rain watered in the potatoes and strawberries planted yesterday but it brightened up by mid-morning. It wasn't as wet as expected. So, plans for a walk were put on hold as there was plenty opportunity to do more in the garden and the old field. A little bush planted some time ago at the top of the rockery just didn't look right. A space for it was found in the field near the vegetable patch after clearing some more bramble roots. There were also some Irises in pots that never seemed to do well, so they too were transported to the field, accompanied by more digging - this time mainly nettle roots. Then it started raining again, the damp ground became wetter and we decided to call it a day.

This shot of the rockery (with the bush now removed) was taken in the rain and doesn't really do it justice. The little splashes of yellow are wild Primula replanted from the field. But what's particularly interesting is the speed at which everything is now growing (little Gunnera apart!). The garden is taking off and beginning to fill with colour. And in the field, nettle, docken, thistle, dandelion, buttercup, ground elder and more have suddenly appeared as if from nowhere - as we always knew they would!
