Grebe love story
A very mixed day. It began well, partly because I was up early and partly because it wasn't as cold as previous mornings. Things changed quickly though when, despite having run the motor briefly to help clear the windscreens, Gerty wouldn't start. Call in the cavalry aka the AA (again!) and the bad news was that he couldn't fix it immediately - it would need a trip to the garage to have a new [something or other] and re-priming the fuel supply (I think that's what he said). Being Saturday morning the garage wasn't open so I'm going to have to hang on until Monday. morning. This will be a real test for the new solar system - there just isn't much recharging going on with the low, weak sun. Hmmmmm.......it'll be an interesting couple of days. Nothing for it then but to walk places, though to be honest, I didn't go far. I've been watching the local grebe population and it seems there's a little romancing going on.
This shot was taken as a second - presumably male - tried to make a play for his partner. He was chased away several times surprising me at his level of athleticism......changing direction whilst running on water, then diving underwater to re-emerge 10m further on. (extras) Impressive! Love won out though and the happy couple were left undisturbed........at least for the rest of the time I watched them.
Also in extras is an early morning view across the water to the nearby Salmon Farm Cafe which I thought looked rather lovely. Might head over there for an 'outing' tomorrow. Haha!
