Wattled Plover (Vanellus senegallus)
I saw these ones with their relatives, the crowned plover, this afternoon. Just note the lovely colours on the face of the male!
Where these are brown with yellow legs and beaks, the others are grey and black with a white head and black legs and beaks and the third group, the crowned plover, are brown, black head with white ring/crown and red legs.
They scrape in soil to nest and line it with bits of soil, dry plants or small stones, in open grassland.
Boy, but can they make a noise! They try to scare you off with those loud screeches!
