White

I hadn’t realised that Grampian was unique in its use of white fire engines. It was only brought to my attention during a lockdown quiz (remember those!) when my cousin asked what colour the fire engines were in Inverurie. Apparently this was a big deal to him as a 12-ish year old at our wedding 13 years ago when he saw one and has stuck with him ever since.

A bit of research found Grampian introduced them back in 1998 based on research that people saw the white and yellow better than red and yellow. Science!
Although now that there is a combined Scottish Fire Service it sounds like the white engines are numbered and will be replaced with red ones when the time comes.
