Battle Hardened

There was an HMMV was parked near the armory and I decided to return today to take some pictures. I was pleasantly surprised to find that two more of these had materialized and particularly liked this one due to its parking spot.

I looked inside the cabin of this machine and was amazed at how primitive it was. Literally, the controls looked like they were created in the 70's; forget the idea of power anything; this bad boy is all manual. I guess it is designed that way for simplicity and ease of maintenance, but it still struck me as odd. All I could think about when looking at this was the troops who drove it (and are currently driving similar vehicles) in combat. Whatever you think politically, those soldiers are the real heros risking their lives every day.

In the shot, I tried to capture the large size and hardened nature of this military vehicle. I chose to use the ultra-wide lens because I like the perspective it adds and how it enhances the feeling of size.
