Men & Women

Cute calf, scary moment. Momma cow had a prolapse, but we hunted down the farmer and they came to get them with a trailer.

Cuteness over, rambling thoughts below, feel free to ignore.

Sometimes, a lot recently, I've felt I shouldn't have a voice on many of the issues of the day, old white privileged males are all too often the only voices that get heard, and more and more often they're voices that are, simply, wrong.
But I've also been reminded this week that we need to use what little voice we have to say when something is wrong, to let those who feel they're never heard know we stand with them, that the loudest voices don't speak for all or indeed most of us. Sometimes the best way we can do that is to simply listen more.

I've spent most of this week working with 17&18 year old girls. One topic dominated their conversation, seemed an abhorrent step backwards in their youg lives, difficult to explain, impossible to justify. Then today I wandered a whiles with a woman much older who's had man after man harm and hurt her, make her feel less than the wonder she is. I'm wise enough and old enough to know my own triggers, I also know the easy sounding answers are seldom the right ones. I hope I let her know there's more good in the world than bad, I know all too often it doesn't seem that way.

Philosophy Friday
I don't care if you're Christian, but I will fight for you to have your religious liberty and practice your Christianity. I believe in that, its your right.

But I don't believe in Christianity, which means that you do not get to dictate the way I live my life based on your religion. I don't care what the Bible says.
You have every right in the world; all those women who identify with your religion have every right in the world to not get an abortion, to not take birth control. But they do not have the right to dictate my life and what I decide to do with my body.

I don't care about your goddamn religion, it's not mine.

I'm so tired of having non-stop conversations about what the Bible says. You live your life in the way that you interpret the Bible. Again, I don't care, it's your right. But you don't get to take the Bible and tell me "Well the Bible says this in this chapter in this verse".

I don't care.
I don't care, I don't believe in it - and I have the right, based on our constitution, to not believe in it.
