A moody picture of Harewood house taken this morning. We visited the house to take another look at the craft collection there and to wander through the house, home to a staggering range of chippendale furniture and what is described as the finest private collection of renaissance art. And Turner too! The Harewood story is a troubled one and whilst it is home to the finest of fine things it  recognises the conflicted nature of it’s wealth. They say;

“Harewood cannot change its past, but we can use it as a stark, unequivocal truth to build a fairer, equal future.

“Today, Harewood House is an educational charity set up to share Harewood’s story, to listen, to learn, and to enrich people’s lives using our collections, surroundings, and our history as means of creating a better society today.
“We acknowledge that there is a long way to go, that there is much to understand about Harewood’s history, and that there is much to undertake in order for Harewood to fully represent its community.”
