Conviviality

This morning we travelled out to Hawick for coffee with five people we met on the “Discover Howick Walk”.  I had suggested we meet in a coffee shop, but one of the couples said they’d like to host it, so we had it at their lovely home in Cockle Bay up on a cliff overlooking the ocean.  We had the most delightful morning, drinking coffee, eating delicious nibbles and talking like old friends.  It was just wonderful.  We stayed so long we had to rush home so I could change quickly before hubby dropped me down to my Pilates class.  After the class we did our usual Friday afternoon task of putting up the open home signs and delivering leaflets.

After arriving home late afternoon we popped over to spend half an hour with Mum, then walked down to St Heliers for an Italian meal. We were celebrating because we took a case to the Small Claims Tribunal and found out today that we had won.  We purchased two eBikes back in 2019 and because of moving, renovating and Covid lockdowns (when they were inaccessible to us) hadn’t ridden them very much at all.  Last year one of the batteries failed and the shop we bought the bikes from were unable to repair or replace it.  Instead they gave us the card for The Battery Man and suggested he might be able to help us. The battery was repaired at a cost of $879. Hubby then began a long trail of emails with the bike shop, offering to go 50/50 on the repair; asking them to give us a $500 credit against the future purchase of a new eBike, etc., etc.  They flatly refused to listen or talk to us.  Having studied the NZ Consumer Guarantee Act, hubby then decided we had a case and submitted a claim.  The hearing was last Thursday, by phone, and we received notification in the post today that the bike shop has to pay us the $879 by 21 July. Fantastic!

As we walked around Te Atatu South delivering leaflets this afternoon we saw this very nicely decorated electrical box.
