Alien on the Beach
Burnham-on-Sea had this strange structure today; I haven't researched it as again we are in the countryside with a poor signal and slow 4G Internet [Edit: it's the Low Lighthouse]. We visited Burnham after looking at caravans at Highbridge; they're all too expensive, of course, but interesting to see what others will tolerate in holiday living.
We are at a small caravan site, a CL on a farm on the Somerset Levels. The directions, along small lanes, seemed good but at the end, "the farm is on your right" led to my driving car and caravan into the farmyard, blocked from the caravan area by a massive John Deere tractor and battered (but huge) trailer. I had turned too early. There ensued a negotiation with the farmer's wife regarding how to negotiate an exit. I wasn't going to attempt to reverse the rig out from her yard onto the narrow lane, but the farmer was away "pouring concrete". Eventually one of her sons arrived and moved the tractor and trailer in a matter of moments.
That left us to negotiate two sharp bends, having first to move rusting gates protruding into the corner (a caravan cuts a corner) before eventually we reached a field for caravans. Phew!
An in the Extra, a bit of a comment on poor old Burnham-on-Sea, a sad looking seaside resort. This is a passage down one side of the short pier, viewing out to sea past a security fence, with "Burnham" in bright, cheery letters on the side of the roof.
