TT 2022 Scene 5 The Great Fire
Here is Mr Whidett, the village butcher in 1883 explaining to young Millie about The Great Fire of Gransden. His house and shop was next door to the Forge. So he was there when a spark, carried by a rogue wind, flew to the roofs of the thatched cottages opposite. The fire took quickly and destroyed the row of cottages. No-one fortunately was killed. The firehooks that were used to drag the burning straw from the roofs are still kept hanging at the back of the church.
Dress rehearsal tonight. A bit of a struggle, not with the scenes, but with three or four absentees. Ah well! A good audience in the church tomorrow evening for those with mobility issues. And then we hit our garden performances! Saturday 2.00pm performance is sold out!
