Butterflies
The warm weather brought out butterflies in abundance today.
This Brimstone was perfectly camouflaged against the primroses it was feeding on, until it turned sideways. The underside of the wings are tinged green, with the veins making then look remarkably leaf-like.
Brimstone is the old name for sulphur - the upper wings being the exact colour of sulphur crystals.
I also saw Commas, Peacocks, Small Tortoiseshells and a white butterfly - possibly a Small White or a Green Veined White. A great start to my annual butterfly diary.
In addition the swallows are back. I saw a pair on the telephone wires looking very chipper.
