I was horrified to catch the cat with this little bird in his mouth.  I managed to free him.  I held him in my hands for 15 mins or so while his heart rate calmed.  I thought I'd lost him for a second but he opened his eyes.  I took him outside, to the neighbour's walled garden, safe from my cat, and let him go.  He flew away.
