OLD BLUE TONGUE

It's Tiny Tuesday.....but I have nothing small to contribute so I decided to go opposite and have a Maxi Tuesday submission.

This, of course, is the Reticulated Giraffe (Giraffa reticulata) a.k.a. Somali Giraffe and I really like that blue tongue. It's tough and long....measuring some 18 inches (45-46cm) long...and is literally wrapped around tree branches and used to strip off edible leaves. Favorite food? Acacia!  It has big thorns but the tongue isn't bothered by them. As mentioned, it's tough!

This one lives in the zoo in Milwaukee....but is native to the African Horn in Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya.
