Puffin Mural
The shelter at the West Braes in Pittenweem is complete now, with murals on all sides. The artist has done an amazing job.
After I picked up Maggie from nursery at lunchtime we walked down to the Sweetie Shop for Ice Cream cones then sat on a seat overlooking the sea to enjoy them. After that we made our way along West Shore where, very sadly, we found 6 dead gannets on the beach. I had already seen 5 on the shore between Pittenweem and St Monans this morning. The Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth is a gannet sanctuary with thousands of the majestic birds nesting there. Tragically an outbreak of Avian Flu has been confirmed on the island. The Isle of May, another wonderful bird sanctuary, is closing down to visitors as they try to contain the spread of the disease. It’s dreadful to think that in the middle of nesting and rearing their young they are being decimated.
Extras are; a gannet painted on the other side of the shelter, and a shot of a happy Maggie.
And……we have had sun and heat and very little wind and several heavy showers. So a definite improvement on the weather of late. There was even lots of steam rising from the roads when the sun came out after one shower.
