Sailing Lessons

Tim came up with Maya and Owen to go to the waterpark at Spring Lake. It was a busy place on a lovely Sunday afternoon. There were stand up paddleboards,  kayaks, sailboats and even a motorboat. Motors are usually banned on the lake but I think this one must have had something to do with  with the sailboat lessons.

There were people camped out at picnic tables under the trees, in tents along the beach and with portable chairs and canvas wagons to transport their children, their belongings and even their dogs. Spike was beside himself with sensory overload. Little kids ran everywhere, pursued by parents not far behind. One little toddler wearing nothing but a diaper was giving his dad a run for his money despite his small stature and bare feet.

The kids enjoyed the action in the waterpark while we sat on the grass, John restraining Spike, and watched. It has been closed for two years but has reopened in a different configuration this year, giving the smaller children their own separate structure. The kids all have to pass a swimming test, be over a minimum height and know the rules and are watched over by lifeguards both on towers and in the water.

The ice cream bars were good last night, but they practically needed chisel to eat them with. I had to take them out of the pan at home in order to fit them in the cooler, which was probably just as well as the sight of me hacking away with a variety of implements would certainly not have inspired confidence. The company was good humored about it and did the best they could. I wonder if it had anything to do with the fact that I used gluten free pretzels?

And so another weekend has passed quite pleasantly, reminding me that the world is simply too big to worry about all of it all the time. For now, I'm sticking to my own little corner of it which is what I can manage for now....
