Foreign Travel

For the first time since we moved to Northumberland Mrs F and I ventured North across the border into Scotland. A quick trip around Jedburgh and Hawick before the long search for lunch began.

There are very few establishments serving food on the route we took back towards the border but we eventually found a nice looking pub in the village of Bonchester Bridge. The sign boasted 'food served all day'. And it was.................. yesterday, and it probably would be again tomorrow but not on the day that the chef had gone over on his ankle and been taken to hospital which happened to be today! Plan B was to drive on to the café in Byrness we had passed earlier in the day. We found it without any problems........................ it was closed! Eventually a little further on (more than half way home) we arrived at another pub, not only was it open it also had a fully functioning chef. Prawn sandwiches and a portion of chips were worth the wait.

The blip is the abbey at Jedburgh, a ruined Augustinian abbey founded in the 12th century.

A good day, as it always is when spent with my best friend.
