Wester Ross

We drove across the Highlands today to Wester Ross on the west coast of Scotland where the Gulf Stream makes the climate unexpectedly mild. First stop the famous National Trust for Scotland’s Inverewe Garden, which is a subtropical garden with trees and shrubs from all around the world. The main picture is the current house on the site, first extra the view from the walled garden across the bay with the tide out, and second extra a succulent and alpine garden which we will try to copy on a tiny scale at home.

Second and last stop of the whole tour was Lady Rice’s private garden at Dundonnell House. The third extra is the rather austere front of the house, the fourth extra a glimpse of the mountains above the walled garden, and the fifth extra the centre of the garden, a yew tree many hundreds of years old.
