I just know that something good is gonna happen...
A bit of a plod along day until 4.30pm when it was time to head to Cumbernauld and meet our friends Keith and Mairi for dinner before heading to Cumbernauld Theatre to see Cloudbusting.
It really does the band no justice to describe them as a Kate Bush tribute act as the term conjures up images of a Kate Bush impersonator with a backing tape, prancing about the stage to Wuthering Heights. They could not be further from that if they tried! Seasoned professionals and masters of their craft. Mandy Watson's voice makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and can bring me to tears in a second. They really are a superb band.
But I am jumping ahead.
We met Keith and Mairi at a local hotel for dinner and had a lovely catch up with them. Well D didn't need much of a catch up with Keith as they play golf together every week!
The concert ticket said 7.30pm but we assumed doors open at 7.30 with the concert starting at 8pm. We arrived at the Theatre at 7.25pm and I nipped to the loo. Kate's second album was playing through the sound system when she (and I) was rudely interrupted by a tannoy (or whatever the modern equivalent is!) message announcing the concert would begin in 3 minutes!!! Fastest loo stop I've ever had!
When we first saw Cloudbusting in St Andrew's in 2019 we had front row seats and I said to David this afternoon that we wouldn't be able to beat that tonight. Well guess what? We were in the front row about 6 feet from the band but it felt closer as they were on the same level as us as there was no built up stage. Brilliant!
Once again they were absolutely superb. Mairi is also a Kate fan but Keith only knows a couple of her songs so wasn't sure what to expect. Well by the end of the night he was a convert! Keith is a live music aficionado and I think he was expecting a tribute act more along the lines of my earlier description, so he was completely blown away.
Of course the night was all the more special as the UK singles chart results earlier today announced Kate to be No 1 for the second week running. Fantastic!
What do you call a theatre full (the concert was sold out) of Kate Bush fans, listening to her music being played beautifully, by a band who are as obsessive about her as their audience, on the day it was announced she had the UK no 1 for the second week running (and just about everywhere else in the world!) I will tell. you....absolute bonkers bliss!!! We all brought the house down!
After just over two hours of the most amazing music it was all over and I think the band were genuinely touched by the reception they received.
Cloudbusting are touring again in the autumn. Well be there! :-))
