I was waiting for nothing
And nothing arrived.
Boy, did the Villagers deliver, on home turf, down in the village.
Mimi and I went to see them in the Pavillion. It was an acoustic set. It was pure brilliance.
I may have welled up a couple of times, during some of the more simply beautiful numbers. Just piano, wee toy guitar and clarinet. And Conor J. O'Brien's voice.
What voice control. What pitch. What clarity.
What performance.
Mimi was blown away. I am so glad she got to see such brilliance up close and personal.
O'Brien's music writing style is perfectly suited to intimate acoustic sets.
And we got to see it the most perfect circumstances. No singing in the audience, no phones, no cameras. Except for one muppet who just had to steal 5 shots. Mimi was mortified to be seated next to him.
What a performance!
