On our doorstep.
On our doorstep.
Normally we wouldn’t have gone walking with the Pudseys on one of the hottest days of the year, but this one started at Oakwell Hall which is only a couple of miles from where we live. Also the walk followed part of the Kirklees Way which comes through our village. So smothered in factor 50 and wearing long summer walking trousers, blouse with collar turned up, and a large brimmed hat, we set off.
Only 9 of us as about 20 of our group are on a walking holiday near Arnside in the Lake District.
As the walk passed near our house at about 11.30am we did a detour for a comfort stop and I provided everyone with cool homemade lemonade, which was most welcome.
Although we knew most of the walk the last 3 to 4 miles were on paths we had never been on before. A much tougher walk than we had expected.
Lots of awkward stiles, and three fields of not very friendly cows.
Then near the end we turned a corner to go under a disused railway line to be confronted by a highland cow with very large horns. ( see collage. ) Friend Christine almost screamed as she spun round and retreated!
However it was quite harmless and just stood and stared as we all walked past.
The 7 miles actually turned out to be 8.5 . May be it was the heat, but MrC and I found it one of the hardest walks we have done.
Certainly glad to get back home. Have enjoyed a relaxing soak in the bath and now feel much better. I know two people who should sleep well tonight!
