"All Grown-ups Were Children Once"

Today is a national holiday here in Turkey. It is Childrens Day. I thought about this a lot today. A friend and I went to Taksim and I got to see a different side of Taksim that I have never seen. I usually walk up and down the super touristy parts. Today I walked the area via side streets. And it was like seeing a different city. Colorful buildings. Amazing graffiti. Old book shops (it was like my own Diagon Alley) and tea shops. It was wonderful. That experience got me thinking about how I see things and how I should see things.

The title of this entry is a quote from Antoine De Saint-Exupery (The Little Prince). As a teacher, I am very thankful for the "children" I have taught. Very. I have learned so much from each group I have stood in front of. I am also thankful for the "grown-ups" who told me to never fully grow-up... It is strange.

Have faith like a child they say. See things like a child they say. Today reminded me of how when we look at things we should try to see it differently. As innocently as possible. As adventurous as possible.

Forgive as a child forgives. This is a big lesson for me. A lot has happened to me here-some of the best things-some of the worst things- and I need to hold on to the good times and forgive the not-so-good times. And if we dare to see things differently-then maybe we will see a brand new side of the same thing. Like today.

"They always need explanations"- The Little Prince in reference to grown ups.
