Flossmo

Dundee

We were up and about quite early and set off for Dundee. It was an easy, pleasant drive up the coast through St Andrews and Leuchars and we arrived as the museums were opening. We spent the first two hours at the Discovery Museum learning about the original surveying of the Antarctic as well as the subsequent voyages that the ship made. What difficulties Scott and his crew must have endured over the some three years of the expedition.

After a pleasant lunch at the Dundee V and A we toured the Scottish Gallery which gathers together the best of Scottish design. Much to interest.

We then stopped off at the Dundee Transport Museum where Mr Flossmo did a quick tour. I rested in the car although I started to feel like one of those dogs that expires in the heat.

The last stop for the day was the Verdant Works Jute Factory Museum. In many ways it was the most interesting of the museums and the staff were brilliant at explaining the jute processing process. It also painted a picture of life in Dundee in the nineteenth century. I rather fancied the factory manager’s desk complete with multiple drawers just right for a bit of curating. We finished up with tea and millionaires shortbread before driving back to Crail where we flopped on the sofa.
