Old among the new

This shows the oldest building that is left standing in Goring-by-Sea. It was known as The Olde Tudor Cottage and dates back to the middle ages. Stories about smuggling have survived over the years. It still had a thatched roof in the early 1900's and in 1915 there was a sweet shop which also served teas in a small extension to the building. In 1937 it was in danger of demolition (along with all the other historic buildings in Goring) but was one of the few which escaped this. It actually meant that the road had to be built to avoid it as it is considerably further forward than the other buildings around it. The adjoining building has obviously been built much later and an attempt was made to make it match to some extent. Apparently this newer building was Millns cycle shop in the 1950's and 60's.

This building is quite near my physiotherapist's. That's where I went this morning and got on fairly well. The leg has been less good since I last saw her, but she has given me some different exercises to do. If there isn't considerable improvement by next time, she's going to write a letter to the doctor. So we shall just have to wait and see!

I have to go and cook a chicken stir fry now, so will catch up with everyone later today.
