Hootananny, Inverness
It always seems to be ‘award winning’ but I’ve generally felt that it is a pub doing live music, rather than a music venue. I’ve played there as a singer-songwriter, and as temporary part of a ceilidh band. I used to notice that when I stopped singing there was a delayed reaction to the applause, as if people had just noticed that you had stopped. The music seemed to be a background to people gassing and drinking. That said it is a very successful place. Ground floor; traditional music, first floor, rock. They put on a lot of music. Good luck to them.
