Van Gogh experience

Would recommend. Having seen many of the originals I'd thought this might diminish those impressions, but it was complementary.  The paintings are grand when enlarged, the animation was restrained and effective, the musical score all classical, synchronized to the flow of the paintings, at a reasonable volume.

How it's set up : the Edinburgh show had more than 35 projectors, aimed at 3 x 2 meter screens arranged around the edges of a figure 8, and above the restricted sections in the middle. The show is looped, so you don't have to come in at the beginning, though the sections are in chronological order through Van Gogh's life. Each arc of the 8 has one screen showing words from the artist's letters which are commentary on the life he was living or the material he was painting. There are some benches, though I found the viewing much better by standing and turning around.. there are enough different pictures that you can't see them all at once from any viewpoint. Having watched the show from the start to the credits, I walked through the other sections (banks of artificial sunflowers set up to make a background; a stage set of the Bedroom in Arles (extra)) then went back to the show. Stood in a different location, saw more and different than for the first time through.
