A Walk in the Park
The Rower and I became Friends of the Belair National Park a couple of weeks ago, and by chance the walking season has just opened. I should perhaps explain that our bush walking season runs from April through to November when it's cool and you get to see a lot of native plants and flowers.
So the first guided bush walk of the season in the Park was today, and the leader was absolutely passionate about Native Orchids. There are only a couple of them in flower at the moment, and this is one of them.
It's called Parson's Bands (Eriochilus cucullatus) - and I'm absolutely certain you can see why. Check out the little face, and the outstretched arms, and the white parson's collars.
A louder sermon
These tiny orchids come from the Eriochilus family, in which there are 9 species, all of them endemic to Australia. They are native to our particular area, and it's a delight to see them growing in their native habitat in the Park.
I feel heaps better today, thank you all very much. The walk in the fresh air did me a power of good. So thanks for all your views, comments, stars and hearts for my Bee and Salvia yesterday. You propelled him into the spotlight, where he enjoyed the warmth for the best part of the day. Good job I took it yesterday because there's not a bee to be seen today - it's much cooler.
