Birds Of A Feather?
You may recall that just over a month ago, I came across this injured fieldfare outside. Today, this little head popped up in more or less the same place. It seemed unable or unwilling to fly away, sitting quite nonchalantly as I strolled around it, and only hopping off when I moved in very close. I initially took it for the same bird - a miraculous survivor of heavy snowfall and cat incursions for nearly five weeks - especially as it eventually scurried away into the same little hiding place that the injured fieldfare used last month. But on comparing the two pictures, the colouring of their legs and feathers are clearly different.
Have I discovered a chameleonic bird (and more importantly, will it make me rich)? Or has the injured one hired a full-time carer to go out and do the grocery run? Fieldfare buffs, I await your expert knowledge.
