Wedding ready
We got up quite leisurely, had breakie and got ready. I’d ordered taxis so off we trolled at 12.30 for the ceremony at 1.30. The taxi driver was absolutely lovely. Chatty and a real gentleman, helping me in and out. The weather had obviously changed since yesterday and as we left the cabin it had started spitting. Continued to spit literally until the ceremony started. We had brought an umbrella but the place had lots to bring out to people anyway. They had the wedding at Wilderness Reserve in the Walled Garden. You can google it. They had booked it over three years ago and were so lucky to be able to have it at the price it was then. Since then they have put their prices up 300%. So they had hired the Walled Garden which is a property that sleeps 16 and I think they may have hired a couple of the smaller properties, not sure. Obviously lots of us were airbnbing. Absolutely beautiful place even without the sun. Drinks were available throughout the day - they provided all the drinks and had organised it all themselves. So pimms on arrival, followed by prosecco for most of the afternoon. Lauren’s brother was the celebrant and Andy’s sister and Lauren’s dad did a reading. All very informal. They both did their vows which they’d written themselves and were quite beautiful. Several wet eyes - including Andy’s obvs lol. Then it was just hanging around chatting, eating and drinking for the rest of the day really. They had a huge buffet in the afternoon then fish and chips from a van in the evening. We had vegan sausage and chips - which were absolutely bloody lovely. In between the food they had speeches which were also wonderful. Both Andy and Lauren did one, together with her best woman and his best man. All excellent speeches - very funny and absolutely brimming with love. Once all that was done they had a silent disco in the evening. Andy had hired all the headsets and they had three channels of different music. Hilarious. By this time some of the guests were really pretty drunk. We got a taxi back at 10.30.
I've known Andy properly since he was 16 but knew of him from age 11. I taught him and am honoured to be able to call him - and Lauren - my friend. They are beautiful people. Andy had a hard time at school with little self esteem. I wish I could tell 11 year old Andy that it was going to be more than ok, that his life and his wife were going to incredible.
Today was another bloody good day.
