Anglesey Abbey Lode Cambridgeshire
Today with the improved weather we toured Anglesey Abbey and gardens, a priory was built in the grounds between 1100 and 1135 and was converted into a country house in 1600. It's said the King George IV (1726 - 1830) laid the first stone in one of the Abbey's many transformations.
The main collage shows in the top left the painting by Constable of King George IV opening Waterloo Bridge on the River Thames in 1817, the painting has been cleaned and is quite vibrant and detailed.
The top right shows the vaulted ceiling of the dinning room.
Bottom left is one of the drawing rooms and bottom right one of the many bedrooms, most of the rooms are quite dark and the use of flash photography is not allowed.
The Extra collage shows some of the kitchen where the windows were bigger so the lighting improved.
The rooms are the main kitchen with a variety of ovens which were added as improvements in more modern years, the pantry where game was hung prior to preparation, the original wood/coal fired cooking range which would have also heated the kitchen and a cupboard stocked with some items of the day.
Lord Newhaven who is the owner no longer lives at the Abbey but is still very involved with the National Trust in running the Abbey, we were told that the Abbey will be closed next Friday as his Lordship is coming to the abbey to view the Constable painting that are on display.
Although dry today this afternoon the temperature has dropped again and we are on the move tomorrow heading north to Nottingham to visit my sister, I hope the sun shines.
