The Indian couch

We bought this hand-carved wooden couch at a used furniture store in Berkeley many years ago. It wasn’t until we got to India and saw nearly identical ones in the grand villas of Ahmedabad — mostly chained to the ceiling as swinging chairs — that we realized the national origins of our own.
