A shorter walk with a bit less climbing and no buses today. The departure was slightly delayed by light drizzle so we had an early coffee. A pleasant but steep climb with about seven false summits but we arrived at lunchtime and the gusty wind had subsided with some occasional sunshine as we ate our rolls. The sound of children’s voices announced the arrival of two couples with five kids under 8. One six year old told us ‘this is my second Wainwright today!’.
Seems they had gone over Outerside first because it was the name of Year 2’s classroom. We had a very pleasant chat with them all before they headed off downhill for the pub.
We continued over Stile End before descending to Braithwaite and an ice cream.
