A tarn on Dales Way

Firstly, thank you for the stars, hearts, and kind comments for my 3000th blip. I didn’t know it was coming up.

It was very hot today. We left at 9 from our stable, to leave one car in Staveley then we drove to where we finished yesterday at Grayling Foot, so it was 10.20 before we were ready to start.

The walk was pretty, more hilly than yesterday and further, according to people devices though according to the ancient guide book it shouldn’t have been. Maybe it has been re-routed since then.

The blip is a little tarn where we had our lunch stop. We ploughed on, feeling more tired but we had a few stops for rests and water - I even used some to wet my sun hat.
We reached the river Kent where tractors were busy turning hay, and gulls were circling till they were scared off by a red kite.

We followed the river to Staveley passing the most horrendous complex, a gated community of many flats overlooking the weir. No green space, just many buildings of 5 of 6 floors of many buildings crammed together on the outskirts of a little hamlet.

My phone was running out of charge by the time we reached Staveley. We had to get into Margaret’s car to go back to the start to pick up Ailie’s car. She and I got lost down narrow lanes as we had to rely on her Satnav which kept recalculating.

We had another mile or two after we got showered to walk up to the pub and back for delicious fish and chips to celebrate. A long time since I’ve done 27000 steps and over 11 miles in a day.

Last day tomorrow. It says 7.5 miles but I’m expecting more. And the forecast is hotter! Wish us luck!
