Diary of an Edinburgher

Near-a-bin find Number 65

‘Summer’ did not hang around very long - cloudy today. Though there was plenty of sunshine first thing, but it was just teasing us!

No worries, it’s always ice cream weather. There’s a new ice cream shop that we haven’t been to yet, so that was our (my) goal for a walk today. Through the Meadows, where Archie just lay down on the cool grass and refused to move. I think it was warm if you had a furry coat on.

We had our ice creams sitting in Greyfriar’s Graveyard. And it was mobbed! Several groups of tourists on walking tours, many different languages. In fact, loads of folk came in with their lunches - it’s a popular place to sit.

And would you know it… it started to rain! Just the sort of rain that doesn’t really make you wet, but most inconvenient. Round by the Grassmarket, up the Vennel steps, where JR took it upon herself to use a discarded plastic bag to pick up all the litter lying around. She then went to Waitrose to pick up another item to compare it to the one she got yesterday. I watched Breaking Bad.

Forgot to mention yesterday we went into a new (to me) pet shop, and it was jammed with doggie treats - Archie sniffed enthusiastically along the whole row of baskets of treats, and yes, he got a wee sausage. But I was horrified to see some of them - rabbits’ ears (with little bloody tufts where they had once been attached to a rabbit’s head) and then huge bones - ostrich bones! YUK!

I was quite tempted with one item in this orderly selection. Can you guess which one?
