Too early!

I usually plant up this trough at the beginning of June, using the wool insulation from the various food parcels that arrive.  Cut the plastic cover off, line the trough with the wool and then put the plastic inside the wool to keep the compost in.  That lasts until the next spring when the birds begin to steal the wool for nesting.
This year, I planted it up at the beginning of May - this is obviously too early as the birds have already trashed it and I will need to work out how to do emergency repairs to get through the summer.
No allotment - watering this was the only gardening done today.
