Chailey Windmill
On the road between Uckfield & Haywards Heath, in the little town of North Chailey, sits this beautiful landmark.
Chailey Windmill has been waving to me for some months, but usually we get just a fleeting glimpse before it vanishes amongst the trees & rolling hills. Today though we found the bumpy, cattle grid protected access road that leads up it, & we took it!
Originally built in 1830, the windmill, standing tall & gleeming, is situated next to huge, old, handsome building, St. George's, which although looks like a manor house or school, is actually residential housing (this probably explains the strange looks we were getting driving about & taking photos). Also, it is said that the yew tree that sits next to the windmill marks the centre of Sussex - fascinating.
We continued our weekend of pottering & potting (Jen planted our herbs in their trough!). Single handedly, I cooked up a lamb (first time!) Sunday Roast - agh, it was good! And this evening we tuned into watch The Hobbit on doovde - very funny & very good.
A fun & relaxing weekend draws to a close.
