Bol d’Or regatta

The Bol d’Or takes place every year on Lake Geneva and is the largest inland regatta in the world. We happened to come across the lead boats today, watching from a cafe after we’d finished our walk. The race takes place over a couple of days and the boats sail from one end of the lake to the other and back again. Over 480 boats take part with around 3000 people.

After a lovely walk from the campsite this morning, the Bol d’Or became the highlight of the day as we’d never seen it before. We swam in the lake watching the boats go past then continued to admire them from the campsite. As the sunset, they put on their lights and carried on. We did worry how the people on board would cope with spending the night on board but, judging by the noise coming across the water, the party was just getting started.
