Holdenby House
Spent the morning visiting this beautiful house and garden. In 1583 it was one of the largest and most magnificent houses in England with 123 huge glass windows. In 1647 it become a palace of James I then Charles I and after his defeat in the Civil War he was held here for 5 months until Cromwell sent his soldiers to remove him. He was executed in 1649. The gardens are beautiful and in the Elizabethan garden, under a sundial, there were four varieties of Thyme which were covered in bees.
