Sgwarnog: In the Field

Wood

I spent a quiet Saturday in the company of 17yo who is nearly through his A level exams, just two more to go in the coming week. Just don’t mention Roland Barthes.

Out alongside Moorside there were a few butterflies about, including this very fresh Speckled Wood which I think will be one of the (second) summer brood. There have been plenty about this week.

Small White and Small Heath were also seen but it was a bit cloudy when I was out, and a bonfire in the garden at Strawberry Fields was billowing a particularly noxious plume across the best butterfly spots.

Further along there were a some nice moths. Scores of tiny Rhopobata myrtillana which I’ve recorded here before and a single Orthotaenia undulana
