A rather tired photo of the scene after our allotment social earlier today. Who would have thought so many people would turn up? It was great fun meeting folks who, like me, trained at Homerton. Or were landscapers, nursery owners, truck drivers, chalet managers, care workers, sandwich makers, IT specialists, pharmaceutical workers, chiropodists, fork lift drivers, pig farmers, meat packers, soldiers and sailors, nurses, a detectorist with countless tv appearances and a Viking treasure hoard amongst finds, folks from DEFRA …. and quite a few more who have abandoned paid employment to live on boats, or just want to live differently. There were also some big stories of people with terminal illness, mental health issues and covid-induced financial troubles and all have found comfort, health and strength through tending the soil and growing fruit, veg & flowers. Our little tent had another outing & coped well with the windy conditions. Great fun!
