Colours in rust
With a tiny runner in the thumbnail. :-)
Lucky to get a shot on such a dreich day! We're in an atmospheric river again, and it hasn't stopped pouring all day. A very quick trip outside looking for rust for the Abstract Thursday theme of Rusty and found some with good colours on an old piece of metal.
We watched the live stream of Krista's graduation ceremony. She received the Bachelor of Early Childhood Care and Education degree and will be taking the Post Degree Program in elementary education at UBC in the fall. The grads were drummed in by Indigenous drummers, great to hear them. Capilano University is named after Chief Joe Capilano, an important leader of the Squamish (Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) Nation of the Coast Salish people. The university campuses are located on the traditional and ancestral territory of the Squamish, Tsleil-Waututh, Musqueam, Lil'wat and Sechelt (shíshálh) Nations. The speeches by dignitaries were all excellent, and I especially enjoyed hearing Carleen Thomas, an elder I know from the Tsleil-Waututh nation and a NITEP grad. It was thrilling to see Krista cross the stage and receive her degree. I tried to take a photo off the computer screen but none turned out. A single piper piped the grads out to "Scotland the Brave", great to hear the pipes in this grad too. So sad and disappointed not to be there to celebrate in person, but good to be able to see the live stream. Hopefully family will send some photos and I can add them as extras to a future blip.
