The Tempest!

Apparently. this evening to the Sir Christopher Wren Banquet (Worshipful Company of Constructors) at Drapers Hall. This is the Hall that is used in various various films including in The King's Speech (as Buckingham Palace). This is the ceiling in the room where dinner was served.  It was a great evening. 


The Court Assistants, on the 14 March 1901,  resolved ‘that a commission be offered to Mr. Herbert James Draper to paint a picture in oil to fill the centre panel of the ceiling of the Livery Hall for the sum of two thousand pounds……….. the copyright and all rights of reproduction to be reserved to the Company’.  An initial design based on the story of Jason and Medea was rejected in favour of a scene from The Tempest by Shakespeare.  The resulting painting was finished and hung in the Hall in May 1903.
