Superbloom!

At the Tower of London.

When we knew we needed to be in London this week I decided to book to visit Superbloom, a wildflower tribute for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee  planted in the moat.

As with anything natural it has been tricky to ensure growth and last week we had an email saying some of the flowers weren’t as far on as they’d hoped and we could cancel or rebook for later but we were coming anyway so decided to go ahead. It was so quiet and peaceful and I loved the flowers that were in bloom. There were boards explaining why some areas are just green or even bald, dry spring weather being one issue. Also much of the back of the moat has been sculpted into mounds and it was clear to see which slopes were more favourable than others and why. They intend to keep the new landscaping.

In this area too there were speakers playing lovely music. The staff/volunteers all chatted very happily and apparently we can still book to come again later in the summer if we wish. I found the whole experience most uplifting, whether it would be the same with crowds of people I’m not sure.

The blip is the entrance area and you can choose to come down a massive slide into the blooms if you wish - you can see it in the background - we chose not to, it looked scarily high to me!

We bumped into a Beefeater walking through the flowers so I asked him for photo. One of the helpers volunteered to take a photo of the two of us with him so I’ve put that in the extra.

We spent an hour in Superbloom and then had to come out and go in again to visit the Tower itself. Both Chris and I have some recollection of visiting the Crown Jewels as children but not any detail. I can only remember the ravens! Today we got the chance to have a recap which was very nice following on from the Jubilee’s coronation recollections and a programme last week on the Crown Jewels. Think we now know the Culinan diamonds from the Koh i Noor!
It was much busier inside the Tower but we didn’t have to queue. We spent another two hours inside the walls including having a cuppa and a very nice individual portion of the winning Jubilee citrus trifle!

Ready for bed, sorry too tired for comments!
