Canal and Industry

MrsB and I walked a stretch of the Leeds/Liverpool canal westwards from Wigan Pier this afternoon, which passes much of Wigan's former industrial heartlands.
This area is located at Pagefield Lock, and the large factory units opposite used to be the Pagefield Iron works, rolling mills and engine sheds which served the busy railways passing through the town.
They are still standing, as many smaller engineering firms now occupy them.
