Castle Urquhart

We cracked on despite our pessimism after hearing the earliest we could get though Moy Swing Bridge was 9:30. The lock keeper at Laggan Locks then informed us at 12:20 that the swing bridge at Laggan would be shut till 1:30pm. For lunch. Baffling stuff - there was so little through traffic that you’d think they’d could guzzle their lunch when there were no boats coming through. So there we sat. It’s not a “customer is king” operation (though some of the staff are great).
However we got down the steps at Fort Augustus at the back of 4pm and set off up a very biffy Loch Ness, getting tied up at Dochdarroch by 8:30pm. Good going! And then the crowning achievement - the famous cassoulet was served up. With new potatoes and Scottish asparagus. And no pub to distract us with, for once.
