Sheila Hancock talking about life
Asked what it is like to be 90 years of age, actor Sheila Hancock replied:” Life is not a bowl of berries”. Speaking at Hay Festival she told the story how she fell and broke her hand and was told by the doctor that she would never be able to use it again.
“Far too risky at your age to give you an anaesthetic.”
Now I reckon most folk given that prognosis would have accepted it. Not Sheila, always a fighter, she took herself off to the gym twice a week and strengthened it so much that she can now use it again.
(She still goes to the gym).
Her motto is:“I live in the moment.”
Interviewed by Alan Rusbridger, former editor of the Guardian, to talk about her book , “Old Rage”, she was shocked when he asked her to write a monthly column for his magazine Prospect.
But Rusbridger was equally surprised to discover she was already a reader of it.
