Trethevy Quoit
A day on a history trail round the area we are staying. We started at the Tamar Trails Centre. We followed on of several routes explore the industrial history of copper and arsenic mining. Both incredibly lucrative for the investors. Interesting to read William Morris of wallpaper and fabric fame greatly benefited from the shares he was given. Fascinating to see the remnants of buildings and waste created by the industry.
A short drive away was Trethevy Quoit a well preserved portal dolmen. It is thought to date back to the early or middle Neolithic period around 3500 - 2500 BC. How they managed to manoeuvre the huge slabs into these positions is hard to believe.
We then travelled to Restormel Castle in Lostwithiel. An impressive circular structure built in the late 13 century. It was once a luxurious retreat for the Earl of Cornwall.
WiFi still difficult to find so apologies for the lack of comments. Thank you for the birthday wishes for Jet
