Camera Shy

I painted this!

Ridiculously proud of my bowl that I painted at a "Pottery Party".  Not something I thought I would enjoy...but then again - what's not to like about an afternoon cream tea and the chance to select a pot to paint in the company of friends!  Had no idea what to expect and at a time when I am engaged in trying to reduce "stuff" I couldn't possibly think of anything I really needed.  I expected the worst on arrival at the venue - shelves and shelves of gimmicky items having gone through first firing and providing a blank white clay canvas on which to apply your artistic efforts of "slip" ready for final firing.  I had decided to chose a small plain bowl and decorate it as food bowl for Ginny - et voilà!
It's a strange concept to me...a pottery party but it seemed popular - there were about 4 parties at the venue on trestle tables - a hen party, some special needs youngsters, family groups etc.  It was quite well organised until the mix of pots, brushes, coloured bottles of slip and then cake stands of sandwiches and cakes, scones, cream, teapots, sugar , milk and sugar bowls all got added into the mix on the table!  I got so involved in my pot that I nearly dipped my paintbrush in the sugar bowl and placed a sandwich on my paint mixing plate.
All painted items are left at the venue to be fired to fix the glaze and can be collected after a week.  As it was adjacent to where Ginny has her tracking class I called and collected her bowl today and she will have her dinner in it tonight.
