Moorland Mousie
Do you remember that book from when you were a kid? We read ours till the pages went soft. And, yes, this is an Exmoor pony. Don't know what it's doing running (relatively) wild in Hampshire, you'd think it would be a New Forest one, but that lovely chocolate brownie coat and mealie muzzle are unmistakable.
Here's the nerdy stuff I pulled off the Exmoor Pony Society website:
The Exmoor Pony is Britain's oldest breed of native pony, thought to be little different from the original wild ponies that colonised Britain many thousands of years ago. It's destiny has been determined by people since the time of the Celts. In 1921 the Exmoor Pony Society was formed to ensure that this remarkable survivor was not lost in the genetic melting-pot of breed "improvement". The Society remains dedicated to safeguarding the future of this remarkable pony.
Oh, and the reason it's my post of the day is because of the attitude being struck - sort of reminds me of a Reynolds portrait, only scruffy equine rather than polished socialite.
Hope you're all having a wonderful Sunday. Happy days for the week ahead xx
