The Horse

There is something beautiful and majestic about the equine form, I love heavy horses in particular but to be honest I am enthralled when I get the opportunity to watch them at work or at play.

I am happy enough to ride them too although it is not something I do very often. Very soon the annual agricultural show will be held and I will take my place in the car park were I marshal the horse boxes and lorries that transport these beautiful creatures and their riders. It is many of the same faces every year and there is a lot of banter and the odd cup of tea to be had.

I have looked at this sculpture titled "Ginger the Horse" by Andy Scott and he is situated in Greenock town center opposite the police office. I have always thought him gorgeous, the texture and shape reminded me of the horses from the stage show of Michel Morpurgo's novel "Warhorse" which were wooden and operated by puppeteers.

You may look at the composition and wonder about the jaunty angle of the composition, but in the background are streetlights, traffic lights barriers, a 1970's CoSLA carbuncle and an unkempt garden, I experimented to eventually manage them all out of the shot leaving just Ginger and an darkening sky. I have returned to monochrome as it suited the shot this morning. I loved the the shapes and shadows around his head and neck with the swirling clouds and am pleased to have finally got a shot I like of him.

I am returning to my essay writing tonight and I promise that I will get back to enjoying everyone's recent entries in a few days.
